AssistEd: Empowering Teachers and Carers through Physical Play

AssistEd is a pioneering initiative by our Education, Research & Development Team, dedicated to creating innovative resources that promote teacher and carer training in physical activities facilitated through play. Our mission is to emphasise the critical role of physical play in enhancing overall well-being, fostering social interaction, and combating conditions related to inactivity, such as obesity, across all age groups.

Physical play is not just an enjoyable activity—it supports the development of a healthy body and mind, strengthens social bonds, and encourages an active lifestyle. By integrating play into educational settings, we aim to inspire a generation of educators and carers to facilitate active learning environments where physical movement is a key part of the daily routine.

We are excited to announce the launch of the first in a series of three innovative training programs, designed to equip teachers and carers with the skills needed to inspire physical activity through creative and accessible play. These training aids are tailored to address different groups and contexts:

“Adapted Learning Practices for Children of All Abilities” – Our first course is tailored for educators working with school-aged children with additional needs. This program provides specialised tools, strategies, and insights to engage and support children with diverse abilities, ensuring an inclusive approach to physical activity. Ready and active – click here for full details and to book a course for your school.

“Reviving Schoolyard Games: Promoting Play in Schools” – The second training program focuses on bringing back traditional schoolyard games, encouraging more dynamic and varied physical activities in schools. This initiative aims to foster creativity, teamwork, and joy in movement, countering sedentary habits by making physical play an integral part of the school day. In development – ready early 2025

“Active Living for Life-Experienced Individuals” – Our third program is designed for carers working with older adults, focusing on the importance of movement and social engagement for maintaining health and vitality. This course emphasises activities that enhance both physical and mental well-being in later stages of life. In development – ready mid 2025

Together, these programs represent our commitment to supporting physical activity across different age groups and abilities, ensuring that no one is left behind in the pursuit of a more active, connected, and healthy lifestyle.
