Judo Assist Ireland was proud and delighted to be invited to host a Judo Assist/Adapted Judo category at this year’s Cork Open Judo Championships. With over 40 Judo Assist players from across the country gathering in Cork to compete alongside their mainstream peers, the event was a true celebration of pride, respect, judo spirit, and—above all—INCLUSION. Congratulation to Grainne O’Mahoney who won the Judo Assist Player of the Day Award.
We extend our sincere thanks to Damien Lane and his team at Kano Samurai Judo Club for the invitation and for delivering such a well-organised and welcoming event. A huge well done also to all the players who took part on the day; your enthusiasm and sportsmanship were an inspiration to all.
As a proud and active member of the European Union’s Erasmus+ programme, Judo Assist Ireland is committed to working in close partnership with national and international organisations that share our passion for inclusion, education, and the promotion of health and wellbeing through sport. These collaborations allow us to continually expand our knowledge, refine our practices, and contribute meaningfully to the conversation around inclusive sport and education both at home and abroad.
This event in Cork featured members of our team and athletes who are currently involved in the Erasmus+ Judo Intellectual Disability Project (JIDP). Now in its third and final year, the project has already produced a comprehensive adapted coaching education course, a healthy eating app, and a progressive judo programme designed for people with intellectual disabilities and other life challenges.
