Black Eagle Judo Launches National Special Needs Judo Program in Ireland

September 2010 saw the launch of Special Needs Judo Ireland, the first ever Special Needs Judo program in Ireland. 
Head coach of Black Eagle Judo James Mulroy and assistant coach and French international Jennifer Gratz started the program with a Disability Awareness & Special Needs Judo Seminar held in Nenagh, Co Tipperary.

Delegation Travel to Uk for GB Closed SN Judo Championships

A small delegation travelled to Sunderland for the GB Closed Special Needs Judo Championships, this was a meet & greet fact finding mission which proved incredible productive.
We met with a lot club members and coaches from England, Scotland and Wales who were only to glad to share their experiences and knowledge of Special Needs Judo.
We were extremely well looked after by the host club Washington Judo Club and hopefully bonds & friendships have been made for the future.

We sent a delegation of 4 people to this very important event on the Special Needs Judo calendar. The event incorporated a coaching course, referee course and major tournament...

2nd European Special Needs Judo Event 2010

Thursday saw the arrival of the competitors, coaches and officials to Baarlo in preparation for the days ahead.
Friday morning saw the start of the event with 10 of the top judokas from the Netherlands including, European, World & Olympic champions, taking a session with all the competitors over 8 mat areas.

Judo Assist Open Day
Kilkenny Feb 2011

As part of our continuious  rollout of the Judo Assist Program our coaches travelled to Killkenny last weekend (26th Feb) to deliver the latest in our free taster sessions for mixed ability groups. The event was hosted by Kilkenny Judo Club and supported by the Kilkenny Sports Partnership.

The day was a fantastic success with a number of mixed ability students taking part. We finished the session with a medal presentation made by the coaches of Kilkenny Judo Club.

Judo Assist head coach & referee James Mulroy, had the great pleasure of refereeing at the Special Olympic World Summer Games in Athens. The whole experience was absolutely fantastic and the standard of Judo was second to none.
The athletes gave their all and the rewards were outstanding.
There were no Irish competitors in the Judo this time because judo is not yet a Special Olympic Ireland sport, but hopefully we will be ready for the next Games in 2015.

Irish International Open 2011 a fantastic success
This event showcased the competitive element of mixed ability judo and was well attended by a number of countries such as Scotland, England, Wales, Sweden and indeed Ireland.

Chairman of the inclusion/disability committee of the Irish Judo Association, James Mulroy was presented with a plaque in recognition for his contribution to Special Needs Judo in Ireland. The presentation was made by presidential candidate Mr Sean Gallagher and Irish Judo Association president Mr Frances Treanor.

Come & Try
Sessions

As part of our national rollout of our Judo Assist program we will be hosting  a number of FREE Come & Try Sessions around the country.

The first of these sessions has been confirmed for Tipperary, Cavan, Dublin and Kilkenny.

These sessions are open to anyone with a disability who would like to try judo for the first time, and because they are totally FREE you have nothing to lose.
